Ottawa Contractor Contract Checklist

A written contract turns a conversation into a shared reference point. Before Ottawa renovation work begins, confirm that the agreement explains the work, price assumptions, timing, responsibilities, and what happens when conditions change.

Project identity and scope

Include the parties, property, project description, drawings or specifications, materials, allowances, exclusions, demolition, protection, cleanup, and restoration.

Price and payment

Record the contract price or pricing method, taxes, deposit or milestones, allowance adjustments, invoices, holdbacks where applicable, and the process for approving changes.

Schedule and responsibilities

State the expected start and completion assumptions, access arrangements, owner decisions, product delivery responsibilities, permit and inspection roles, and how delays are communicated.

Warranty and closeout

Describe workmanship or product warranty information, deficiency review, manuals, receipts, inspection records, final cleanup, and the contact process after completion.
